What Determines Nursing Salaries

In todays economy with declining employment in many fields that require degrees, the profession of nursing is as solid as it ever was. People with prior degrees are looking to enter the nursing profession. The salary of a nurse varies greatly. There is really no base salary but a fluctuation across the board. The reasoning for this is a varied as the salaries in nursing.

The base pay of a nurse is determined by many different factors. The first of these factors are the years of experience that the nurse brings to the table. A GN or graduate degreed nurse will start out at the lowest salary of nurse pay. They will remain at this level until they pass their board exam or NCLEX. Upon passing their boards they will receive a small increase in pay anywhere from $2.50 per hour to $5.00 per hour. The most important factor in this scenario is to keep in mind that if the graduate nurse does not successfully pass the board exam the hospital can terminate their employment or extend to them a grace period in which they have the opportunity to pass the boards a second time. In the past years, it was not unusual for a graduate nurse to stay on as a hospital employee for years before finally passing or taking their boards.

This practice is no longer widely accepted. Also the graduate nurse is not allowed to pass any medications until they have their licensure. The question remains, what is the typical base salary for a graduate nurse. It is safe to say that the salary ranges in the low to mid forty thousand dollars per year. This discrepancy of several thousand dollars has much to do with the location of the hospital. For instance, in rural communities where much of the hospital funding comes from the government, the pay rate may be higher or lower than a privately funded institution.

Film Prop Puts Snoop Dogg On The Hot Seat

Snoop Dogg, real name Calvin Broadus, may face charges after authorities discovered a 21-inch collapsible baton in his bags upon boarding a New York bound flight.

Snoop had the baton in his laptop case as he went through a security checkpoint at John Wayne International Airport, sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino said.

The rapper told sheriffs deputies that the baton was a prop for a movie he was filming in New York.

District attorney spokeswoman Susan Kang Schroeder said the prosecutors had not yet decided whether to charge Snoop Dogg and that their office only received the sheriffs report. The rapper was not arrested.

A collapsible baton is classified as a dangerous weapon. Snoops baton collapsed to eight inches.

This wasnt the first time the rapper had a problem at an airport.

In May, Snoop Dogg and five other men were arrested at Heathrow Airport in London on charges of violent disorder and starting a brawl after some members of the rappers party were denied entry to the first class lounge of British Airways.

5 Let the kids play sports at the local community level and get involved. It is fun, it is easy and your kids will love you for it. Things you might have to do are being present in the refreshment booth during games, or look after the team uniforms. It is not a full time commitment; you usually do a few turns during the season, not every night. Your kids will develop new friendships and you will meet people your age.

6 Continuing Education. Those courses are offered by local school boards and community colleges. There are fun courses, and courses that will help you become certified in a trade, or get credits towards your high school diploma. Time commitment for the course is different for all courses. It might be one or two evenings per week for a certain amount of weeks, or it might be a full or half day course during the weekend.

Radebe blames brake failure in bus accidents (2006)

Brake failure was a major factor in a recent spate of bus accidents, Transport Minister Jeff Radebe said on Thursday. "Buses involved in these accidents are clearly old and not roadworthy," he told a SA Bus Operators Association (Saboa) conference in Pretoria. In some instances, buses were fitted with new parts to pass roadworthy tests, after which they were removed. Operators whose buses crashed because of negligence, recklessness and unroadworthiness would be held responsible, he warned. Radebe said all bus operators receiving state subsidies will have to renew their fleets and undergo regular testing at authorised facilities

When should I replace my brakes?

Symptoms of brake failure:

1. Noises

Your brake system may be crying for help if you're hearing strange noises when you depress the brake. Two of the most common are squeaks and grinding.

2. Squeaks

Friction from the brake lining causes heat. Under extreme conditions this can damage the pads and/or lining, brake drums and rotors.

3. Grinding

Metallic grinding sounds indicate your brake pads are worn through. Metal-to-metal contact will damage drums or rotors.

4. Low or Fading Brake Pedal

Do your brakes require pumping to stop the car? Does the pedal sink to the floorboard when you're stopped at a light? There may be a leak in the brake system, air in the brake lines, or the need for a brake adjustment.

5. Pulling to one side or brake drag

Worn or uneven brake linings or a damaged brake line can cause your vehicle to pull to one side. Brakes that are out of adjustment or have contaminated fluid can cause brakes to drag.

Brake testing and the importance of brake pad certification ECE R 90 and VC8053

ECE R90 is a European standard for brake components that requires brake manufacturers to conform and guarantee to the original equipment standards as far as performance and quality is concerned. Products complying to these standard carry an E mark on products and packaging. In Europe brake pads cannot be used or sold unless they carry this mark proving that they performance and quality standards compliant.

Most countries around the world are following suit by setting standards to which brake pads have to comply.

Regulation VC8053 is minimum specification published in the Government gazette No. 22014 of 2 February 2001, to which brake lining assemblies in South Africa has to comply and this specification is regulated by the SABS.

The tests for both these regulations consist of laboratory and road tests we will not go into detail about it but rather summarize the requirements:

Brake pad road tests:

1. A series of 0-type standardisation tests braking suddenly under different conditions of vehicle speed and load with the aim to test the correct response in emergencies, parking and different braking situations.

2. Loss of efficiency when warmed up In the first test the brake is used 15 times in succession to test its performance under different conditions. In the process, the brake warms up. In the last instance its performance is measured and checked for correct operation after which the results are compared to brake performance when the brakes are cold.

3. Speed-sensitivity test The pressure is identified in the previous test to obtain a deceleration of 5m/s2. The same kind of test is repeated at 65 km/h, 90km/h and 135km/h in order to check that the brakes deceleration is maintained irrespective of the speed at which the vehicle is traveling.

Brake pad laboratory tests:

Once the road tests are completed, mechanical laboratory tests are done:

1. Compressibility test the compressibility of the brake pad should not exceed 5% of its thickness at 400 deg. C.

2. Resistance to brake seizure this test simply determines the adherence of the friction material to the metal support.

Once the tests are completed an approval number is issued and it is compulsory that the brake pads and packaging contain the specific number example: E1 XXXXX. Packaging should be tamper proof and contain instructions in the local language where the product will be sold.

Standards compliant brake pads will not only ensure roadworthy vehicles but also ensure safety for both the driver and their passengers when it is needed most. So all vehicle owners are urged to ensure that the replacement brake pads they purchase complies to industry requirements and standards.

Dear Paris, Here's An Idea.

For the past few weeks, I've been astonished to find there's been no front page news on the life and times of Hilton heiress, Paris. I mean, with America at war, the healthcare system in disarray, and a presidential election creeping up, what else could possibly be more worthy of breaking news than Paris's recovery from her time in the slammer. We're all praying for you dear Paris; get well soon.

I'm sure I'm not the only one surprised by this; half of America probably expects Paris to randomly appear on every news station, perhaps speaking at the next State of the Union Address, where - when asked about her feelings on Iraq - she replies, "I'd love to go there; I've never been to Africa" and then concludes her speech with her signature catch phrase, "That's hot." Her dad beams with pride, her mom applauds enthusiastically, her dog Tinkerbell piddles from excitement.

Right.and the world goes further to hell in a hand basket.a designer hand basket, mind you.

Sarcasm aside, I, like so many other people, simply don't get why Paris Hilton is such a big deal. So, she's a heiress to the Hilton hotel chain. So what? I'm set to inherit my dad's one-man janitorial company and you don't see me getting attention (and he has a really expensive mop, people!). So she's blond, tall and thin. I can dye my hair, wear heels, and throw up after I eat. If that doesn't get me Paris-like attention, I guess I could just stop wearing underwear. I will miss you fruit-of-the-loom.

Truth be told, the whole Paris fascination is a bit of an enigma: she's not a big deal, she just makes herself one and that, in turn, makes everyone biteeven if they don't like the taste. Look at this article, I'm doing it too.

Other than the few license plates she may have pounded out in prison, has she really contributed anything tangible to society? Seems to me the only things she adds to our culture are scandals. I don't know about you, but I'm just about all scandaled out. They're so "Amy Fisher."

So, dear Paris, here's an ideainstead of parading around in shirts with that oh so clever (and grammatically incorrect) catch phrase of "Thats Hot. Your Not," go give back to the world. In lieu of hopping from party to party (all while trying to avoid those "pesky" laws) go and do something that helps others. Take your money, take your fame, and take your undeserved power and volunteer at a Children's Hospital, fight for animals, donate money to help the African AIDS crisis, head a fundraiser that helps cancer research. Don't do this for five minutes once a month; include them in your life's dedications.

Thats why it is sometimes fun to go to a place where presentation is the specialty and wild culinary ideas are made real. Beijing Plays Energy Cleanup for 2008 Olympics

In Seoul, South Korea, public officials pressured food vendors to stop selling roasted canines during the 1988 Olympiad to avoid giving the city and country a bad name among the tourists.

Beijing has a more serious problem. It is one of the more toxic and polluted cities in the world.

This calls for a different recipe using more natural gas in the ramp up time before the 2008 Olympics, which will be held about 13 months from now.

Our sources had suggested coalbed methane gas might be used to light the Olympic flame. Boldly, we included a fantasy photo of this in the introduction to our publication, Investing in Chinas Energy Crisis. How close to the truth we came!

Further research pointed to a widespread substitution of coal for natural gas in Beijing over the course of the next year. Now it appears official. Earlier this week, China Petroleum Daily reported that state-owned China National Petroleum Corp is hoping to increase Beijings supply of natural gas by 5.5 billion cubic meters by next year.

Crude oil refiner Sinopec hopes to provide low-sulfur gasoline, through its Yanshan refinery, to help reduce smog levels from Beijing's explosive growth in automobile use.

Natural gas will be used instead of coal to fuel Beijings electric power plants, water heaters and cookers. Some cabs and buses will be running on natural gas and coalbed methane gas. This wont be a first for China. We covered CBM-powered taxicabs in a previous article and later discovered the practice has been spreading across China.

Not only did Jiangxi first connect its coalbed methane to its power station in early June, but (as we have been forecasting) the big China energy companies have made CBM a top priority.

China National Petroleum (CNPC) has begun exploring a new CBM field in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region earlier this week.

This has little to do with the Olympics, because the well fields wont be producing before the games commence, but it confirms CBM is quickly becoming an integral strategy in Chinas energy mix.

The Olympics is just a reminder that Beijing and China are getting serious about using cleaner fuels to power the countrys rapid GDP growth while also getting even more serious about reducing the countrys abysmal pollution.
